Hugo “Vicky” Marques is a Portuguese Drummer / Percussionist, born in Lisbon.

He created his first improvised drums with household objects at the age of 8 and started taking drum lessons at 12 with professor Francisco Furtado, at the Top-Music music school, in Cascais.

At the age of 14 he made his first public performance at Teatro Gil Vicente, in Cascais. He then joined the first band, Alla Breve, starting to play professionally at balls and parties all over the country. Two years later he met the musician Miguel Teixeira (multi-instrumentalist in the group Sétima Legião) with whom he had several bands, both originals and covers. It was on the bar circuit, at the age of 17, with the band SG’s (one of the main bands of that circuit in the 90s, in Lisbon) that he started his contacts with pop artists such as Adelaide Ferreira and later (through guitarist Luís Fernando) with Paulo Gonzo, artist with whom he played for about 5 years on several Tours, and with whom he recorded on 4 albums, one of them live.

He attended several Workshops and MasterClass in Portugal and abroad, including a week with the legendary drummer Billy Cobham, in Bath, England. He had classes with Manuel Costa Reis, Bruno Pedroso and Michael Lauren.

In 2008 he recorded his DVD tutorial “Vicky – Elementos”, from the Dread Monkey Music Series edition, which came out to the market in 2010 in which he talks about his concepts and his personal approach to Drums and Percussion, and about which gave several Workshops.

In 2011 he created the concert “Estou de Viagem”, in partnership with Carmo Stichini, a concert of Drums / Percussion and SpokenWord, based on travel stories, presented at Teatro São Jorge.

He has been teaching in Music Schools, Workshops, MasterClass and in private classes since the age of 20.

He has played and recorded in various musical styles from Pop, Rock, Jazz, Improvised Music, Popular and Alternative Music, to Fado, making participations Live and / or in Studio with:

Between 2012 and the end of 2019 he played with Mariza, in a hybrid kit of Drums / Percussion, with whom in addition to playing on the dvd’s “Concerto em Lisboa” (2005), “Terra em Concerto” (2008), and on the single “É Ou É É É ”, made concerts in several World Tours in venues such as: Carnegie Hall NY, Town Hall NY, Walt Disney Concert Hall LA, Chicago Symphony Center, Seattle Symphony Hall, Massey Hall Toronto, Sidney Opera House, Royal Festival Hall London, Barbican London, Carré Amsterdam, Cairo Opera House, Palau De La Música Barcelona, among many others.

In October 2019 he released his first solo album, “Resilience (s)”, with his own compositions, which marks the beginning of a project of personal fulfillment.
